If you and your
spouse-to-be are paying for your own wedding, consider using a separate
credit card specifically to pay wedding expenses. It's a good way to
keep all your wedding transactions in one place, and if you have a
billing dispute, the credit card company can help you out.
The
number of attendants you have is totally up to you. Traditionally,
informal weddings had up to three, semi-formal had up to six, and formal
had up to 12, but nowadays anything goes. You don't need to have the
same number of bridesmaids as groomsmen — there's no rule that says the
numbers must be even. In fact, you don't have to have any attendants at
all, if you so choose.
The
duties of a best man include being an assistant to the groom and head of
the groomsmen. He also is in charge of the bachelor party, getting the
groom to the wedding location, paying the officiant, signing the
marriage license, holding the rings and giving a toast at the reception.
If you have younger female relatives who
won't be attendants, feel free to have them serve as ushers.
To give everyone
extra time to relax and prepare, consider holding the rehearsal dinner
two nights before the big day rather than the night before.
Honeymoon
registries online offer new alternatives to traditional wedding gifts,
especially for couples who already "have everything." Create your own
unique list of honeymoon gifts you'd like to receive, including lodging,
airfare, romantic dinners and more. Shop around for registries that
provide the best services for your honeymoon needs and charge reasonable
fees.
Don't forget gifts
for the wedding party. For the bride's attendants, a sterling silver pendant
or make-up brush or gemstone earrings make lovely gifts. For the ushers, a
sterling silver business card holder, a fountain pen or a sports watch will
please. For the maid of honor and best man, more special gifts are in order.
Keep in mind
travel and comfort needs of your guests when choosing a location for your
wedding. Be sure to include written directions and maps with your
invitations, especially if guests are unfamiliar with the area.
