Independence Mall, known simply as "the mall" by area
residents, has more than 150 stores offering a wealth of shopping
opportunities in an attractive and climate-controlled environment. Planning
to "shop 'til you drop"? Strategically placed throughout the mall are groups
of upholstered chairs (with a few coin-operated "massage chairs"). You'll
find a 400-seat food court and 15 eateries. Sears,
JC Penney, Belk and Dillard's
department stores anchor this complex of trademark stores, independent shop
owners and rented kiosk vendors. There are sporting goods shops, jewelry
stores, software stores, shoe stores, specialty gift stores, fragrance and
bath shops, music stores, home furnishing stores, an impressive range of
apparel boutiques for the whole family ranging from infant-size to adult
plus sizes, full-service salons, nail care, banking services, and much more.
Can't decide on the perfect gift? Gift cards, redeemable
in any of the mall stores or restaurants where American Express is honored,
are a good choice. The customer service center, located in the Dillard's
wing, provides Kiddie Kruzzers, wheelchairs, gift cards, complimentary gift

Electric wheelchairs are also available for free. A family rest area,
adjacent to the food court, offers co-ed children's bathrooms, changing

Learning Express Toys is a great place for kids and their
parents because everything inside offers educational opportunities and fun
at the same time. You'll find an extensive dress-up section, puzzles,
science kits, books, games, yoyos (including Yomega), Playmobil, Corolle
dolls, Thomas Trains, Groovy Girls, Manhattan Baby and Creativity for Kids.
Learning Express Toys carries Legos, puppets, electronics kits and K'nex
plus a large selection of kites for kids of all ages, from easy-to-fly kites
to sophisticated stunt models. In this 3,300 square feet of fun, perhaps the
largest department is the art section. This popular area offers art supplies
and activities to please all interests, ages and skill levels, from finger
paints to a potter's wheel. Another sought-after feature of the store is the
free personalizing offered. Items include clipboards, lap trays, beach totes
and pails, piggy banks and more. The store's huge Birthday Wish Bucket

Emporium and step back into the 1890s. Twenty-eight antique floor cases hold
