This lively strip center was Wilmington's original shopping destination. Opened in 1956 before any other strip malls, it has been completely remodeled and remains a popular shopping venue. Listed below are merchants and businesses currently located in Hanover Center.

Wild Bird Center, (910) 343-6001, offers backyard nature products, garden accessories and seed for attracting birds. Great Outdoor Provision Company, (910) 343-1648, carries outdoor clothing, equipment, footwear and accessories for fly fishing, backpacking, climbing and paddle sports. K & W Cafeteria, (910) 762-7011, serves some of the best food in town. J. Michael's Philly Deli, (910) 763-6466, is a great place for sandwiches and other deli fare for lunch and dinner. For delicious lunch fare (soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche), try Temptations Foods & Cafe, (910) 763-6662, which also sells gourmet treats, chocolates and sweets, North Carolina specialty foods, coffee, tea, wine and food gifts. Harris Teeter, (910) 343-4216, will take care of all your grocery shopping needs. Rite Aid, (910) 763-3367, is a convenient and reliable pharmacy drugstore. Independence Mall, known simply as "the mall" by area residents, has more than 150 stores offering a wealth of shopping opportunities in an attractive and climate-controlled environment. Can't decide on the perfect gift? Gift cards, redeemable in any of the mall stores or restaurants where American Express is honored, are a good choice. The customer service center, located in the Dillard's wing, provides Kiddie Kruzzers, wheelchairs, gift cards, complimentary gift wrap, shopping bags, faxing and copying services and friendly assistance. Electric wheelchairs are also available for free. A family rest area, adjacent to the food court, offers co-ed children's bathrooms, changing stations, private nursing areas and the Disney Channel on TV.
