Massage Therapy

The region has an abundance of practitioners of massage therapy for wellness, chronic pain, strain and injuries. Therapists offer various methods that range through Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, neuromuscular, craniosacral therapy, trigger point, foot reflexology, polarity, Shiatsu, acupressure, prenatal and sports. Some massage therapists work in their homes, others in offices or fitness clubs, and a few will be happy to come to your own home.

The City of Wilmington has an ordinance that requires licensed massage therapists to have a minimum of 500 hours of training at an accredited school. Therapists are also required to carry liability insurance, and North Carolina's General Assembly now recognizes massage therapy as a licensed profession throughout the state. Miller-Motte Technical College, 5000 Market Street, Wilmington, (910) 254-0995, offers massage-student clinics that are open to the public.
