AssociationsGolf associations are primarily connected to local
courses. For example, Porters Neck Country Club (PNCC) has men's golf
and ladies' golf associations that are open to members only. However,
Topsail Greens Golf Club men's and women's golf associations are open to
both members and non-members. Wilmington Golf Course is a municipal
course, which does not have members, therefore, anyone can join the
men's or women's golf associations. Check the courses that interest you
regarding associations. Wilmington Single
Golfers A chapter of the American Singles Golf Association,
which has more than 4,000 members, the Wilmington organization includes
unmarried men and women ages 45 and older from Pender, New Hanover and
Brunswick counties. The group holds two golf events each month and a
business/social meeting the second Thursday of the month at 6 PM at
Wilson's in Wilmington, in addition to other social functions. Golf
outings take place on some of the best courses available in the area.
Numerous multi-chapter events of three to four days are held throughout
the country during various times of the year, including national events
in Tampa and Pinehurst. Membership is $70, which includes national and
chapter dues and newsletters. Cape Fear/Wilmington Executive
Women's Golf Association (EWGA) This EWGA chapter was founded in 2005 and offers numerous golf and social activities for golfers of every ability. The group is comprised primarily of members from New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties and includes women of all ages, from young professionals to retirees. During the warm months, there are a number of events on offer to members. The "Link Up To Golf" program is a multi-session instructional course for new and returning golfers and there's also the "Saturday Traveling League," which allows members to sample some of the area's numerous courses for a reasonable price. There's also match play and a 9-hole league on Thursdays. In addition, they feature clinics that break down your mechanics and help you focus on specific aspects of your game and hold information seminars that help with understanding handicaps, rule interpretations and other aspects of golf Special events are held during Women's Golf Month, for the
Chapter Championship and the season wrap-up, in addition to an annual
membership appreciation banquet.
