This 45-unit establishment has been in
business for more than 50 years and
offers oceanside motel rooms and a handful of efficiency apartments. Motel rooms
come with either two double beds or one
queen-size or one king-size bed, and each
has a microwave, compact refrigerator,
and coffeemaker. The efficiencies have
either two or three rooms with a variety
of bed setups along with fully equipped
kitchens. All rooms and efficiencies have
air-conditioning, cable TV with free HBO,
and in-room phones (local calls are free).
For the anglers in the group, there is a
lighted fish-cleaning station at the motel,
and a guest laundry. The motel is located near tackle shops,
a fishing pier, four-wheel-drive beach
accesses, windsurfing and beach shops,
restaurants, and gift stores. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is 6 miles away. The Avon
Motel is open March through December.

Cape Hatteras Motel's 30 efficiency units
and 11 motel rooms are popular with
anglers, surfers, and folks who enjoy Hatteras Island's beaches. Windsurfers especially like this facility because it is near
Canadian Hole, one of the best windsurfing spots on the East Coast (see our
Attractions chapter). Efficiencies sleep up to six comfortably, offer double beds as well as queen-
size and king-size beds, and have full
kitchens. The newer, more modern town
houses and apartments have a great view
of the beach. The motel has an outdoor
swimming pool and spa, and its position
at the north end of Buxton is convenient
not only to pristine, uncrowded beaches
but also to restaurants and services. Cape
Hatteras Motel has no nonsmoking rooms
but does offer a ZonTech clean air
machine. Efficiencies rent weekly, but nightly
rentals also may be available. Cape Hatteras Motel is open year-round.

Situated next to the Cape Hatteras Motel,
this establishment offers 3 motel-style
rooms, an efficiency unit, and 11 two- and
three-bedroom cottages. Units accommodate up to eight people comfortably, and
some of the units provide an ocean view.
Rooms and the efficiency offer enclosed
porches with sliding windows and screens for a relaxing evening listening to the
ocean. The pine-paneled rooms have tiled
baths, microwaves, toasters, and small
refrigerators. All units have cable TV and
telephones. The owners also have additional cottages in Buxton Village, a mile from the
ocean, near Connor's Market. Because
these units are not oceanfront, rental rates
are lower. If you rent one of these cottages, you are welcome to use the motel
pool and beach facilities. The cottages are
clean, simply furnished, and provide the
basics for family vacationers, including
cable TV. The motel has a coin-operated
laundry, a fish-cleaning station, and a guest
freezer to store your big catch. If you enjoy
crabbing or you just want to paddle
around on Pamlico Sound, the motel has
several rowboats that guests may use free
of charge. This motel is open year-round.

Lighthouse View is easy to find on the big
curve in Buxton, where the Hooper family
has been serving vacationers for almost
60 years. Located within a mile of the
Hatteras Lighthouse, the motel has 78
units including motel rooms, efficiencies,
duplexes, villa units, and cottages. Most
units are oceanfront, and all are ocean-
side. The complex has an outdoor pool
and hot tub. Surfers, windsurfers, and
anglers enjoy the proximity to ocean and
sound. Rooms have cable TV, phones, full
baths, and daily maid service. Efficiencies
accommodate two to six people and are
equipped with complete kitchens. The
oceanfront villas offer balconies on both
the oceanside and soundside, so you
can enjoy sunrises and sunsets. The six
duplexes offer two decks and sleep up to
six people each. Efficiencies and villas
usually rent on a weekly basis, and there is
a three-night minimum stay, but they can
be rented nightly when available. Note
that there is no daily maid service for the
villas, efficiencies, and duplexes, but linens
can be exchanged. Cottages are rented
by the week only. Efficiencies, duplexes,
villas, and cottages are fully furnished.
Wheelchair-accessible, one-room efficiencies are also available. Lighthouse View is

Falcon's traditional Outer Banks-style
rooms appeal to family-oriented guests
who appreciate moderate prices, accommodations with character, and the peaceful environment of Hatteras Island. Owners Tracy and Chris Latta are known
for their attention to detail, which is
apparent in the clean, well-maintained
rooms and grounds. This motel includes 35 units with 30
rooms, three two-bedroom, fully equipped
apartments, and three one-room efficiencies, all at ground level. All rooms and
apartments have daily maid service. Nonsmoking rooms are available. The rooms
include cable TV with HBO, and many
have a refrigerator and microwave. All
rooms have wooden deck chairs on a
wide, covered porch. Complimentary
breakfast is served daily during the summer season. Falcon offers six pet-friendly
rooms in which one or two pets may stay
for an extra $20 per night, plus tax. Call
ahead for reservations. Guests have use of the swimming pool
and complimentary bikes. You'll also find a
shaded picnic area with barbecue grills
amid mature oak trees, away from the
road. The landscaping includes martin and
bluebird houses, palm trees, and planted
shrubs and flowers that attract the local
bird population. The Falcon Motel is within an easy walk
of several shops and restaurants, including
Diamond Shoals Restaurant (see our
Restaurants chapter) across the street.

The Comfort Inn is in the heart of Buxton,
close to the beach and shops. The 60
units and one suite with exterior access
are standard motel-style rooms with king-
size or double beds. Rooms are decorated
in attractive, soft beach colors; all have
cable TV with HBO, refrigerators, direct-
dial phones, and microwaves. Nonsmoking
and wheelchair-accessible rooms are
available. Free ice and guest laundry are available.
A complimentary continental breakfast is
served in the lobby. Guests have use of the
outdoor swimming pool, gazebo, and three-
story watch tower, the latter two providing
panoramic views of the ocean, the sound,
and nearby Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (see
our Attractions chapter). AARP and AAA
discounts are honored. Comfort Inn of Hatteras Island has
ample parking for boats and campers and
is open year-round.

A short walk to the beach makes this bed-
and-breakfast inn popular with windsurfers as well as beach lovers, lighthouse
enthusiasts, honeymooners, surfers, and
couples who just want to get away. The
two-story inn offers several styles of
accommodations. All nine units are nonsmoking, and six are on the first floor.
Each has its own entrance opening onto a
covered porch running the length of the
building. Two of the rooms offer two double beds, and the rest have king- or
queen-size beds. The inn has two efficiency units. A two-room unit features a
bedroom with a queen-size bed, a living room with a queen sleeper sofa, and a full
kitchen. The one-room unit has a queen-
size bed and kitchenette. All units have
cable TV and private baths. A large sun-
deck with comfortable chairs, a gas grill,
and a table are available for guests' use. Amenities include a common dining
and living area upstairs (where a complimentary full gourmet breakfast is served),
color cable TV, VCR, and hot and cold outdoor showers. Beach gear, coolers, bicycles,
and beach toys are available along with
lockable storage for surf- and sailboards.
Daily maid service is provided. Weekly
rentals are available, with special accommodations available for honeymooners. The
inn is open April through mid-December.

This small motel, just off NC 12 oceanside,
is one of the friendliest spots on the Outer
Banks. The Gray family, which has owned
Tower Circle for some 40 years, treats
guests like old friends, and many of
them are. The 15 units, including 8 duplexes, 4
two-room suites, and 3 efficiency apartments, open onto the porch. All have
cable TV and sleep from two to six people
comfortably in twin to king-size beds.
Suites and apartments have complete
kitchens. A pay phone is on-site. All linens
are provided as well as daily maid service.
A washer and dryer are provided, as well
as a fish-cleaning station and a freezer to
store your catch. A children's play area is
available. It's just a short walk to the beach,
restaurants, and stores. Tower Circle is
open April through mid-December. No
credit cards accepted.

Cape Pines Motel, a mile south of the
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, is a one-story
facility with private exterior entry to each
room. Each of the 26 rooms offers cable
TV and a full bath. Furnishings have a
contemporary beach look. Some rooms
have queen-size beds, and nonsmoking
rooms are available. Cape Pines Motel
has three apartments, each offering separate bedrooms, a living room, and a full
kitchen. In the summer season, the apartments rent on a weekly basis only. Deluxe
rooms are available with microwaves, coffeemakers, and refrigerators. Stretch out and relax around the pool
and the lawn, which has picnic tables and
charcoal grills. Fish-cleaning tables and a
pay phone are on the premises. High-
speed Internet hookup is available in the
office from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. daily.
Cape Pines is close enough to walk or
bike to shopping or attractions. The motel
is open year-round.

This beautiful new inn is in the heart of
Hatteras Village. Convenient to restaurants, shops, and services, it's adjacent to
the Hatteras charter boat fleet. Visitors
park their cars and walk or bike to most
places in this community. Breakwater Inn has 21 new rooms with
2 queen-size beds and a kitchenette and 2
oversized king suites with living area, full
kitchen, a king-size bed, and a whirlpool
tub. These rooms have a spectacular view
of the Hatteras harbor. The 12 rooms in the
Fisherman's Quarters are standard hotel
rooms, and one large efficiency is located
there also. All rooms have cable TV,
microwaves, refrigerators, and telephones.
Daily maid service and fresh linens are provided. Guests enjoy the in-ground pool and
kiddie wading pool and the long, shaded
porches. Pets are allowed in some rooms for a
$30 fee per night.

The recently renovated Hatteras Marlin
Hotel is in sight of the harbor fishing fleet,
restaurants, and shops. The 39 units are
divided among three buildings and consist
of standard motel rooms with king- or
double-size beds and one-bedroom efficiencies. A newer building near the back of
the property away from the road offers a
pair of two-bedroom suites with combined
living, kitchen, and dining areas. All rooms have cable TV, microwaves,
refrigerators, coffeemakers, and telephones. Accommodations sleep one to six
people comfortably and rent weekly or
nightly depending upon availability. The
motel has an in-ground swimming pool
and sundeck. Hatteras Marlin Motel is
open all year, except for Christmas.
