Visually impaired persons can now hear New Bern's daily newspaper thanks to volunteer readers from the Radio Reading Service of Eastern North Carolina. Volunteers read the newspaper in a live program broadcast through Public Radio East 89.3 FM. Readers describe the weather and the front page of the newspaper -- including photographs -- and read news items, editorials, columns and obituaries. Those wishing to use this service will need a special sub-channel radio, which is loaned free of charge to qualifying individuals. For information, call (252) 756-8259.
