Yes indeed, the Crystal Coast does have
some really delicious fast food, much of which is homemade and
unbeatable in value and taste. We would be remiss if we did not tell you
about some of the best establishments — places where you can get a good,
quick bite for breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. Many are family
owned and have stood the tests of time and taste. Our choices are listed
in alphabetical order. Big Oak Drive-In Turn on the blinker and pull in here. Big
Oak has the best shrimp burger on the Crystal Coast. Other restaurants
may serve a good shrimp burger, but Big Oak serves a great one. Other
goodies you'll want to sample are chicken and barbecue sandwiches,
burgers, hot dogs, pizza and BLTs. Big Oak has plates of pit-cooked
barbecue, fried chicken and shrimp as well as mighty good French fries,
onion rings and slaw. Pizza is served Friday and Saturday nights. But
it's that shrimp burger that will keep you coming back! The Coffee Affair There is more than just coffee brewing at
Coffee Affair. It is the Talk of the Town, offering a wonderful
selection of fresh coffees and teas of all types, fresh-baked desserts,
breakfast and lunch items, and catering services. This is a favorite
hang-out in Morehead City that has been offering customers a home away
from home for several years. Known for fresh-baked scones and homemade
chicken salad, it also offers smoothies, cheesecakes and a variety of
shakes. Let the friendly folks here cater your next event with
breakfast, lunch, appetizers or desserts. The shop offers
wireless Internet access, a small meeting room, chess sets and more. El's Drive-In El's has been a Carteret County tradition
since 1959. This is an old-fashioned drive-in, which means you are
waited on by a carhop and sit in your vehicle and eat. El's has great
burgers, hot dogs, fries and milk shakes. The Superburger, assembled
with mustard, onion, slaw and chili, is a Carteret County favorite. Try
a shrimp or oyster burger, a BLT, a fish or steak sandwich, a shrimp or
oyster tray, or fried chicken. This is a much-enjoyed lunch and dinner
spot for locals, so go early to get a parking place. And don't forget to
lob a French fry or two out the window to the waiting sea gulls. El's is
open from 10:30 AM to around 10:30 PM or midnight every day. New York Deli This is the place for authentic deli food
and we highly recommend the South Philadelphia cheesesteak. The deli
serves overstuffed sandwiches, subs, chili dogs, homemade soups, salads
and pasta. There's also a new Italian Market with olive oils, roasted
peppers, pastas and olives. The deli has a good selection of imported
beers and wines. Deli meats and cheeses are available for you to take
home and create your own feast. New York Deli offers take-out or eat-in
service in an attractive cafe atmosphere; they also offer catering,
party trays, gift baskets and homemade bagels. New York Deli is open for
lunch Monday through Thursday and Saturday and Sunday, and open for a
wonderful Pasta Night each Friday evening. Sea Side Galley Sea Side Galley offers a variety of foods
for eating in or taking out. Enjoy seafood, burgers, subs, pizza and
more. The Galley is the first building on the left once you cross the
drawbridge on to Harkers Island.
